Greeters

A greeter is a participant at a (larger) KinkForAll unconference who welcomes people to the Venue and quickly orients newcomers within the space. Experienced and amiable participants volunteer to be greeters during the Opening EssentialCommunications (first) session of an unconference, and are then stationed near a venue's entryways. Greeters do not necessarily need to be assigned "shifts," but they are encouraged to enroll a fellow participant if they wish to relinquish their role for a time.

Greeters are especially helpful for unconferences expecting a large number of walk-in arrivals (i.e., folks who haven't signed up on the event's wiki homepage). After offering a greeting such as "Hi there, welcome to KinkForAll!" a greeter could welcome newcomers to the event by asking the following questions:

Questions such as these are useful in gauging the newcomer's comfort. Individuals who appear agitated or unwilling to engage may not be participating with peaceful intent. If you encounter such an individual, be certain to inform an unorganizer as soon as you are able.
