Finding Support

Page history last edited by ironrose 14 years, 6 months ago

Perhaps you're interested in KinkForAll but you're not quite sure this is the event for you.  Or maybe you want to come but you want to make sure you're not going to end up feeling uncomfortable or left out if you show up.  Or maybe you just want someone who's presented at a KinkForAll before to help you make your idea for a presentation truly stellar.

If you're comfortable with posting your questions or concerns to a public mailing list, we welcome any questions you might have and would love to help you out.

If you want to find someone in particular to talk with offline about your personal concerns or just to find someone else like you who is already involved in KinkForAll, email the mailing list with the subject "Support: " and describe in general terms what you are looking for.  You do not need to be on the mailing list, though we hope that you will join and help us continue making this event better and better.

Potential examples:

  • "Are there any other genderqueer people here who have been to a kinkforall and can answer some questions for me?"
  • "I'm totally vanilla and I know that KinkForAll is supposed to be for me too, but all the presentations I see are on bdsm.  Will the event have anything for me?"
  • "I'm wondering what the environment is like for people of color.  Are there other people of color here who could email me & tell me about it?"
  • "I want to present on polyamory but I'm not very experienced with doing presentations.  Can someone help me make a stellar presentation?"
  • "Help! I can't make heads or tails of the computer stuff, can someone walk me through it?"

Ironrose, this page says: "email the mailing list with the subject 'Support: ' and describe in general terms what you are looking for. You do not need to be on the mailing list…"

Can we amend that so that it reads something like, "Join the mailing list, and then send an email whose subject line starts with 'Support: '…" and removes the part about not being on the mailing list? I ask because in order to avoid spam, the mailing list moderates all messages from people who are not subscribed to the list. When someone subscribes to the mailing list, they're given the option to not receive any email from the list and only view the messages posted to it on the web, so asking that people sign up to the mailing list before sending an email doesn't necessarily mean they will get tons of email, unless they explicitly choose to receive mail.
